How the age is counted
This calculator uses the most common age system, where age goes up on a person's birthday. Someone who is 3 years and 11 months old is 3, and becomes 4 on the next birthday.
Months and days are counted from the birth date forward. For example, from February 28 to March 28 is one month, so February 28 to March 31 is one month and 3 days. Because months have different lengths, another method could give a slightly different day count for dates at the end of a month.
Some cultures count age differently, for example by counting the current year of life or by increasing age at the lunar new year. This calculator does not use those systems.
Similar situations exist for dates like Apr. 30 to May 31, May 30 to June 30, etc. The confusion comes from the uneven number of days in different months. In our calculations, we use the former method.
